Yeah! Killin it. Its been a challenging job. I wanted to do it right. Pretty much re-welded the entire rear end.

I made a cool bell housing/trans mount out of an early nose cone mount. It works well here because the engine hangs low enough to provide room for it. I think the third mount will tie the rear end together nicely. Better than just relying on the mustache bar hanging off of D pilars/end of the frame.

Great job Franz. I've always admired this bus over the years...that big full length pop top has got to make for a great camping experience.
Meh.

Same guy that cut the frame horns out of that rig was the one who did this custom mod:

This thing was a wreck last week when I drove in. Franz just took me for the test drive and steered directly off the road into the high grass and dirt. Rallying around he said he likes to test the customers vehicles like they would drive em. Make sense to me. =D> =D> =D> =D>
The rear end is totally solid and clean.
I feel very lucky to have had Franz and the KCW crew work on my rig for the last 5 days ! This shop is totally Bad Ass !

Im ready for Baja...

Nice work! Was it damaged by you or just never repaired and finally decided to fix it?

Maybe Subaru parts could fix it?

Long story on this frame repair. You see the picture above with all of the baywindow shit swapped in. That was the first version that had most of the stock frame intact with only the cradle and frame horns cut out. The engine/mustache bar mounts failed on the stock (unboxed frame).

The second version you see here, has baywindow boxed frame sections with the engine mounts/hangers. some 4" x 2" x .250 box tube was used to bridge the two together. Not a bad design...but the welding sucked. You can see its flux-core.

I re-used the baywindow frame sections. After much clean-up and prep, I was able to welded in new 3" x 1.5" x .120 box tube to attach back to the original split window frame. I decided on a C-notch style frame section to elimate as much of the old fab wok as possible. Also, the rear shock upper mounting point on baywindow suspension needs to be as high and rear-ward as possible. The c-notch shape helped with that.

hahahaa, good memories there Franz !
The 59 is stronger than its ever been, thanks to you guys ! It drove great all the way home over Red Mountain. It handled much nicer on the road too. AND, the heat works real good! Like never before. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

I stopped and soaked at Orvis (my aching body needed it). KCW should hold year long passes there for body recovery after all the work you guys do. That shit can beat you up day after day. I feel it.

Really great times hanging with the KCW crew ! Thank you so much.
Thank you Gretchen !!

Hope to be back up soon
