Scott's 1965 Ghia Project

Postby scottsain » Wed Jul 13, 2016 1:27 pm

So I found this 1965 Ghia here in SC. I picked it up at the end of April. I decided to build it for VW Drag Night. So I had 2 months. I asked my friend Jason if he'd help. He agreed that we could do it. The plans were to raise the trans 1 inch. Narrow the torsion 6. Ron Lummus disc brakes on the front. 2276 turbo EFI. Mike Gagnier trans. RLR Rev 6 clutch. Patina paint job. RLR roll bar. Pro car seats. And some cool gauges to boot. In 65 days. We did it with hours to spare. It made its debut at the Friday night cruise in and raced on Saturday running a cool 7.92 on an easy launch.

As I found it. Really nice car. Had been in a garage since 1983.

Starting on the pan.

Bad ass tranny from PEP. 3.88 1.58/1.14
Image
Bolting on the brakes. That caliper mount may be backwards.
Image
Back on its tires.
Image
Narrowed up and painted.
Image
At the body shop for some love.
Image
In the booth ready.
Image
A little paint gun mishap. It burned.
Image
This is where the epoxy sealer was supposed to be.
Image
Base coat. This stuff was hard as crap to sand off. The patina would have be more widespread had it not been.
Image
4.5 hours of 3 people sanding to get here. Enough already.

This was in the car when I bought it. Yes please.

Mocking up the fuel and turbo crap.

Speedhut gauges!

Wiring time.

My 'garage' logo going on.

All wired up.

At the debut at the cruise in. Pic by Pete!

Rolling in to race.

I'll post some more pics soon. But I tried to preserve as much original character of the car that I could. Stickers, shifter, dash stuff, and whatnot. It had a glue on rearview mirror. It stayed. I replaced every single seal on the car but kept the original taillights. A little aged but all original. I had a great time building this car. I did install the LED headlights. Great god those are nice. I also have a great set of bumpers from the Canadian lowlight/PeteSC that will be on it soon! And I've got to show you what I did to the gas tank.
