Coral Red Oval

Postby omr_007 » Sun Feb 14, 2016 7:24 pm

A few years ago a guy on our local forum found this car that was stored in a shipping container for about 20 years in South Australia.
He managed to buy it off the guy he knew and started to fiddle around with it and clean it up a bit.
He buffed the paint a bit and changed the beam and box as it was stuffed, but it then kind of went by the wayside for the last few years.
I've always loved this car so Phat Bug (Rhett) gave me a heads up when the guy decided he needed to move it on.
It took a week or so to nail down the deal and convinced him to deliver the car half way as it was about 1500 miles from where I live in Queensland.
Nug has only just returned from his trip around the country in the snail but I managed to twist his arm and convinced him to come along for the recovery mission.
Still can't believe its mine and that we did the return trip in 2 days but its home safe now and I'm stoked.

Outback Australian sunrise is pretty special but the Kangaroo's are at their most active near the road at dawn and dusk so we were on high alert.

Loaded up on saturday afternoon and turned around and got a couple of hours back toward home so it was an easier trip yesterday.

Stopped for breakfast admiring the view.

Sweet! Guys would die to get a RHD oval in the states...with killer patina to match.

Is the visor original to the car?

Thanks dudes, pretty damn happy! \:D/

Yeah Franz, as far as I can tell that visor is original or at least fitted very early in its life.
Its got a centre prop thats screws to the front cowl which looks a little home made but its cool as hell.

Did a big parts order for it which has arrived already :-$ pretty much all the parts to build the entire pan to new.

The beam in it is ugly as hell so ill be changing that up and have started going through all our 36hp cores to build a fresh engine for it.
Got a few ideas i'd like to try on this one.

Na, but I'd like to think it still has the cool factor. Think previous ovals ...

My first I made my own manifolds and ran twin solex 28pict's, sounds so good

Second oval I went the easy route and just used the Okrasa kit and cam

This one will get the similar treatment but just a little left of field.
Gathering parts on a daily basis so once I have a short block I can start mocking it up.
I'll be sure to keep you guys up to date as I find the time to work on it [-o<
