'67 Notch

Postby Mid West Dubber » Mon Dec 14, 2015 7:48 pm

A little while ago my beetle got moved out of the shed to make way for the '67 notch.

Pretty much just been stripping it bit by bit, I will let the pics do the talking...

With the fuel tank out it made it a lot easier to start disassembling the front end and brakes to make a start on cleaning everything up.

Front end disassembled gave me more room to clean back everything and I have been preparing the inner guards etc for paint.

The steering box that was on the car was worn but I had a spare one on my spare type 3 beam which felt really good.

Unbolted it, gave it a clean up, disassembled a little bit of it and cleaned out the inside, put it back together and gave it a lick of paint.

Also took the discs off, cleaned them up and painted them and had them machined. Also painted the backing plates and calipers.

There were only one or two spots of rust in the body just around the base of the windscreen. Will be doing the finishing touches to this repair when we start paint prep down the track

Free'd up the seized hinges on the doors I picked up from a friend and started to see how they fit.

The hinges on the passenger door needed a small tweak but now have it opening and closing nicely. The drivers door was a little more work as the spot where the lower hinge bolts to the A pillar was split, causing the door to sag. With a few welds and tweaks both doors are opening and closing great.

The doors need to be pulled off and need a little bit of body work and a rebuild but are much better than the doors I had. Stoked!

Pulled the engine out recently and found two small areas of rust which needed attention...

Since changing the brake master cylinder to a dual circuit system I needed to mount a new brake fluid reservoir. On the weekend I made a bracket to hold the reservoir and also fitted the hoses to the top of the master cylinder.

Coming along nicely. Looks like you will be driving it before long. =D>
911 operator: What is your emergency ? Me: Some asshole just pulled out in front of me & totaled my car! 911: Are you injured? Me: No. 911: Is the other driver injured ? Me: Not yet....but you should probably send an ambulance.
