Don't sell your diesel or you will regret it esp when they don't build them anymore.

I've decided to drive right up to the deadline. Two more years. I'll most likely take the fix money. If VW can't get a federally approved fix, they still have to buy it back. Win, win.

The whole VW smog scandal is funny to me. As a engineer minded individual I have to applaud those guys =D> Thats some good thinking.

As a VW guy, I have known that watecooled cars built after 1991 are crap. They are designed to fail and to be serviced at the dealership.

Are any of you TDI guys really upset that your car peforms better when its not on the smog machine???? I didn't think so. What is the problem then? :-# I think maybe this has something to do with buying overpriced plastic crap?

The good news is you still have a excellent engine to swap into something cool later. Smile

I agree completely with Franz on this one . I got a laugh out of it ,when it it the news. Hell yes to the engineers.
It also made me wonder how many other auto manufacturers have the same back door in their software.

Agreed, and one of the interesting business deals that came out of it is that now Vw's trucking group is partnering with International. To build an engine for the USA market as they have been having a very hard time trying to pass emissions with there own heavy duty diesel engine designs. If I remember right international has been running cummins in its Otr trucks for a few years because of this engining issue.

I average 43mpg in my 2015 TDI Sportwagen, filling the tank is usually in the range of $23-$26, the engine purrs like a kitten and I expect it to last for 200K-300K easily. My buyback offer was a little under $10K but it calculated at just under $18k probably due to my high mileage . But is a win, win no matter how you look at it.

Yea Ron, I average just a bit higher 45-46mpg per tank. My commute is 90% over 55mph with not many stops. I'm only at 40,000K on mileage, so barring any major breakdowns, should be a great asset to keep for awhile.
The nice thing is, the price is locked in. I build a good savings account by keeping and driving for two more years. I can sell back, and get the $25K. Or opt to keep, and get $7.5K. That option gets 2/3 cash up front and 1/3 after fix. If VW don't get an approved fix, they're telling me they will still have to buy back.
If I sold back today, I'd get a little over $9K and no car payment for as long as I choose. Pretty fat carrots to choose from either way I decide to go. :-k

It wasn't worth the risk for me. An accident that insurance considers it totaled would be a nightmare. I enjoyed the shit out of the car for 6yrs and about 130k. All good things come to an end. I'm getting $14,200
If I want another TDI ill buy a new left over "post fix" and put a DPF delete and Milone tune in it. It is my understanding that the dealer backlots and piers are loaded with 2015,16 TDIs that cant be sold yet. I'm sure there will be some good deals there.
Getting my offer notarized and sent back today. \:D/ \:D/ the old girl will be sent to the crusher.

Ya'll make me happy that I own a Toyota. 234k mostly neglected miles. Got a best of 20.2mpg on my road trip a couple weeks ago. Love this truck.
That's at the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere, Badwater in Death Valley. 282' below sea level. That far away white sign above my truck signifies where sea level is.

I've had this '04 V8 Touareg about 6 months now. Got it for a steal off some young guy that couldn't afford to fix a fuel issue. Picked it up and had it fixed the same day.
I can't believe how nice this car is to drive, so comfortable with more power and torque than we'll ever need it sure is fun \:D/ \:D/
