SAFARI BUS!

Postby Franz » Sat Jan 14, 2012 9:14 pm

Sooooooo, I traded the 62 last weekend. Its with a new owner in Fountain Valley, California.

I got a really badass 56 coachbuilt euro camper loaded with M codes. The story goes that the bus was imported from Kenya Africa 15 years ago. Originally the bus was special ordered and sent to a coachbuilder to be converted to a safari vehicle. It has a hatch above the passenger front seat for spotting/shooting/picture taking. I do not know any information on the coachbuilder. I assume by the quality of the work that if was a european builder???

If anyone has any information regarding this bus please email me. franzmuhr@gmail.com

Here are a few current, and old pictures.

This bus is too cool, and only Franz could own it and rock it. Unique is the word. Early, euro, semis, panel rear hatch, front mini-sub hatch, airfoil, rad roof rack, flip seat, it's one of a kind. Great find Franz!

You know something Franz, I just realized I know that bus! I knew it when Gene had it but now that I see the Zebra paint pics i realized that this bus lived 2 blocks from my house growing up here in SD. I used to pass it everyday on the way to Jr high and High school when I lived in La Costa, small town near Encinitas. It sat in the driveway of a duplex all through the 90's. It was a fucking eyesore since most of the neighborhood was full of posh new cars. So funny that its the same bus. Love when the pieces fall together. I am fairly sure I have a photo of the bus from way back then sitting in the driveway. I will hunt around for it. So funny that its the same bus!

This one is a keeper! One of a kind. Does it have any "wounds" from animal attacks? If so you should leave them.

Yeah, I remember seeing pictures of the "zebra bus" back it the day. I think maybe it was on vintagebus.com, and maybe in some show coverage in magazines.

My plan is to daily drive it for time being...I'm sure that I'll tinker with it and fix little thing as time allows. I need to focus on that 52.
