Hey JJ, KCW is good at many things according to all the feedback you guys get....

I just read a cool testimonial on your Samba feedback page about a dude and his wife and kids who got their Beetle's windscreen smashed by flying gravel on the highway passing through Colorado..... they hadn't even heard of KCW, found you on the internet and called you up. The whole KCW team helped this family get back on the road in no time and you didn't even charge them!!!
=D> =D> =D> =D>

You don't hear nice stories like that much these days!

Hi Luftcraft and JJ,

In the photos of this SC in the very first post, it shows the roof without cyclops light and with the light. Who welded the light on the roof?
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about removing it to go for a more stock look.....
Then blend the paint back in on the roof.
What would be the least damaging way of removing it?

What do you do with 365 used rubbers? Make a tire and call it a Good Year.

For sure, it's a cool piece and a cool look but the truck is otherwise very stock - not lowered, stock suspension, brakes, wheels. The distinguishing features are the big meat tyres and the cyclops light. Which are very cool.

But a clean roof line is also a thing of beauty....

So brazed = difficult to remove cleanly??

I'm assuming "have fun!" was a sarcastic comment, Franz??!! Wink

Not too bad...but brass does clog cutting wheels. If you can fanagle a sawzall in there, that might be your best option.

...Not many people take a sawzall to a freshly painted bus. Wink Smile

And you know that the metal is going to be a little warped from welding.

Thanks for the heads up, mate. Smile

I just had the tail gate repaired and completely re-painted because some idiot in a 4 wheel drive with big bullbar must have bumped it when it was parked....... it only chipped a small section on the back corner but it damaged and exposed the filler underneath and then created some stress cracks.
Anyway, while the painter mixed up the L345 (and then 'played' with it to match the existing paint), I got him to paint the radio block off plate I bought and also welded up the 3 little screw holes that were in the cab vent cover plate and got him to paint that, too. He had a little paint left over which should be enough to paint the roof, IF i decide to remove the cyclops light. Wink

Stay tuned :-({|=

Me too. That price is about break even for me after all the expenses since importing and transporting to Australia, so I can't complain. Very, very sad to let that awesome Yoot go but building our new house for our family of five is sucking up all the $$$$ like a Hoover :-({|=

At least I still have my very original, matching numbers 58 Beetle \:D/ if I have to sell that then things are getting desperate! 8-[
