Project 11:90

Postby john jones » Mon Feb 06, 2006 4:16 am

Well good morning all.. It's about 3:55am here in Colorado. and I am here to work on MY stuff!! Here is John Jones's latest Project. I have been slowly getting this project up to speed while I have been finishing up the Frid and a KCW, friends, sponsered Pro mod ghia.. Well, Saturday, I got the last bit of paint work done for the ghia, and can start, full bore on my own project now. This is an old employee's car.. a 66 bug. Anthony had started some body work before he left.. I am taking it from there. I started playing with this project around Jan 1. I plan on taking my time on this one.. :^o And want to have it done by March 23rd.. My 34th b-day. No 6 week wonder.. Wait.. I guess thats only about 6-7 weeks from now.. opps!!! I am sure you guys have seen me working on it a few times.. or atleast seen it sitting in the shop..

Original goal with this car.. Break 12's, consistenly, be able to do "laps" at the track, and drive it to and from the track. Eric, a good local friend of mine.. wants a tad more.. 11:74's.. I cut the torsion housing out, and raised it 4 inch's, narrowed it 6 inch's, going to run an 8 inch beam, OFCOURSE!!! That will be a ball joint first around here!! Can you believe it... I am going to roll a balljoint car!! I have a 6 point RLR cage on the way, going to run poly seats, haven;t completely decided on wheels, but leaning towards BRM's.. Color is going to be John Jones usual shade of Orange.. Bright Tangerine.. The color on Al's car in the readers rides.. Tweed interior.. or atleast headliner.. "fire".. The body will be mostly stock.. Very mush like my olad green and silver race car, when I raised and narrowed the rear end.. I cut out, raised and narrowed, and rewelded in the package tray.. It looks clean.. No interior tin work on this car..

Motor parts are off at VW paradise.. Crank is getting wedgemated, all clearances set, rods mains etc, The paradise guys laughed at my 11:90 goal, and told me to get some pucker medicine.. =D> Plans are for a 4 barrel, Kawel turbo cam, and some heads and turbo from paradise.. I want to be able to crank over 20psi of boost into it.. consistenly, reliably. Now I gotta get a tranny that can handle all this.. This car will be much like the green and silver car... but hopefully alot faster. I have become adicted to the boost... and after shelling three turbo motors.. I sent my shit to the pro's..

I busted out the last bit of real body work yesterday.. The four fenders.. I can start painting as soon as this week... But would like to see the clean shop free up a spot for me first.. 8-) It's on now... :^o

Interesting, driveability, high 11's, posable. Here is the list of turbo top 10 from 2005, cal-look street legal cars. Takes some serious dough to go fast though. 10k? for a turn key go fast, another 2500 for a trans to hold it and another 2000 for brakes to stop it! Of course if you look at Laufer's engine I would say more in the 20k range

Sweet project John! Maybe you could find some more crusty Kubelwagen lap belts like the Ghia had. That'll make it nice and safe. Smile

I still think Jones is a 10 second man. I think he will have to go 10's to be happy with this car. big enough turbo, big enough motor, I think he will do it.

now it's getting close to 2am.. I am heading home.. Progress tonight was as follows..

Race (poly) seat mounts fabbed and welded on pan, both sides..
clutch cable tube reinforced in both spots
final look over of torsion raise welding and more welding
patch panel made and welded in under battery area.
braces made to go from pan to raised housing, like stock had..
nose cone shift linkage mock up and shifter box welded on top of tunnel

Good nights progress... Pan should be ready for paint and assembly before the weekend! Base coat showed up today.. along with my new sata mini jet 4... Damn I love sata's.. and the new mini jet is the bomb!

Matt.. Nights like tonight.. I really miss the energy you brought to the shop... Sometimes we refer to it as "cenergy" around here..

I am ready for summer!!!!

You want some pics people??? I'll start a gallery after I get the pan blasted...

I haven't mentioned yet in this thread.. I am tired of building cars.. This is my last.. :^o This one won't be forsale.. ever! :^o
