in reply to: Juan’s 59 Lowlight #39286
According to The Samba Dolphin/Trout Blue was offered up until July 1959, through chassis number 2 528 667. I would think it’s a correct color for Juan’s car. I can’t speak to the other details. When researching my own (Bamboo/Dark Green) I’ve seen both ivory and stone grey knobs/escutcheons.
Sorry for the confusion – I was just pointing out on the Treffen car that the knobs, column and turn signal appeared to be stone grey, while the steering wheel looks ivory (as does the heater control and shifter knob).
I sometimes think it varied from car to car, depending with what was on hand. I’m not sure
in reply to: Juan’s 59 Lowlight #39278These are the correct knobs Franz. I have a knob set at home just like this one, but aluminum. If you think we have to paint the aluminum ones, then the color I like best out of all the ones I see in the pictures is the one on the shifter knob. Maybe we could try to match that color,… what do you think?
For what it’s worth these knobs are stone grey, not ivory. I think the stone grey is correct for dolphin blue ghia’s but not 100% sure.
Plot twist – there are two original interior Dolphin Blue Ghia’s on the page at the link below. This first one looks like it has Stone Grey steering wheel, indicator cover and column, and Stone Grey e-brake handle, and all Ivory knobs and window/door escutcheons.
The 2nd one looks to have Stone Grey steering, indicator cover and column, Stone Grey door escutcheons, and only Ivory for the dash knobs.
Who knows what’s actually “correct” for these cars….the knobs may not have been consistent when produced at all, so you might be fine just doing what you prefer.

in reply to: JJ's projects #39150Had a chance to test drive the pamper yet with the SVDA? Curious if there’s any noticeable performance/cooling/fuel economy changes….
Chopper is looking really good!
in reply to: Pete's 58 Lowlight Karmann Ghia #39131Thanks Ben. The Lowbrow Customs wire is good stuff. Cutting to length is nice bonus for clean routing.
in reply to: Pete's 58 Lowlight Karmann Ghia #39128The Speedwell Pre-A style oil breather installed. Franz added the double barrel, and made the bracket for the engine block that was missing and impossible to get a replacement sent from Ray. Muchos gracias, Franz!
Also changed the dizzy from the Blue Screamer 019 to an 010 for a more aggressive advance curve….and since the blue coil looked out of place without the 019 I pulled it for an NOS black one. The engine is much happier with the 010, which from what I’ve read was the suggested one to pair when adding an Okrasa kit to a 36 back in the day.
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #39072Details, details, details…..perfection, Franz!
in reply to: 1957 Euro Palm Green/Sand Green, Logos, Semaphores #39065Nailed it! Stance is perfect, like a happy medium between stock height and slammed. No redux boxes, and still has some ground clearance.
in reply to: Sailing Bridges ‘52 single cab #38907Pat on the gun! Nice job! Blocking with a paint stick? Looks finger-numbing….
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #38906That’s a VERY nice engine. Killed it with all the details once again!
in reply to: KCW randomness #38905That time of year again! 🤦♂️ Hopefully we’ll stay on the (weaker) backside of it.
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #38840Not yet on the breather; probably Monday/Tues. I did install an 010 in place of the 019…seems to be a much better advance curve for the 36’er.
Yeah, mounting plates would work, or stack/glue some fiber gaskets. It’s not like you need a whole bunch of space. If you order from VS they typically mail quickly, just might take a week+ from Taiwan.
^Those idle mix screws are great. Super easy to dial in with a 8mm ratcheting wrench.
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #38824Or maybe Andy could use a gasket as a template and cut some out of 1/8” aluminum on his CNC? Probably won’t save money but might get them quicker.
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #38822Vintage Speed makes them, sold as Dellorto spacers in their filter line. I think they do sell them separately from the filters.
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #38820You’ve killed it once again, Franz! Super nice engine!
in reply to: Sailing Bridges ‘52 single cab #38801You guys are badasses!
