Just saw this on Facebook. I am not versed at all in diesel motors. He has a gas motor, so I could just be posting something totally irrelevant for this diesel swap. But seems like an easy fix to stop a big problem. Ron(from Utah) just posted this about his Subaru motor he blew up on his trip to Alaska. Here is the post:
Yeah, burning the oil vapor/fuel is good for emissions. but not good for performance. Breather box then. Good info for gas subaru owners.
Diesel engine doesn’t care its like 20:1 compression ratio. It’s designed to detonate.
Is that the rig that was going on the Alaska expedition?
Ya. To the tip of Alaska and back. Didn’t make it all the way up
Working on the locking diffs and decoupler conversion. Getting the chassis ready for the road.
New vacuum resivoire from gowesty.
I’ve been lucky enough to have Will’s jagwagen her to reference.
Foreign Auto Supply fuel tank kit.
This 6 pin connector and wire harness is the only piece we are missing. It connects to the lights on the 3 switch panel to illuminate which part of system is locked. I have looked on samba and ebay briefly. We do have the circuit board and lights…just need the harness and plugs. Surely someone has a parts vanagon or a parts collection with this in it. Help us out $$ finder fee$$. It would have originally come from a vanagon syncro equipped with any combination of locking differential.
I have no idea what I’m looking at, but is this it?
Good find Pete. Almost, But thats not it. That is the main syncro locker harness(all syncros had this harnness even if not equipped with the lockers). I need the instrument harness that connects to 6, 10, andd 11 on the diagram.
I just emailed gowesty. Says on their site that they may have used parts. I am also waiting to hear back from a shop here in SLC. Ill let you know if I get anything back
Cool, Thanks Cole. I’ve asked Burley for some help too.
Cutting holes and installing the aux tank today. The 2wd fuel filler pattern was fun.
I asked foreign auto supply what hardware they used for mounting the straps, I was surprised when they told me self tapping sheet metal screws. Instead, I made some 2.5″ long 1/2″ round bars that slipped in the og rocker drain holes and used 6mm hardware to bolt the straps on.
It hangs down a little. I’d try not to slide over sharp rocks too much.
Ya… definitely a downside to that aux tank… at least you’d probably still make it home if you blew that aux tank out. Hopefully you still have gas in the original tank

Hopefully not gas, but diesel. LOL!
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
