Really looking forward to seeing this motor land in the ol Jigsaw! Gonna be killer pete, love the direction you’ve taken this build man?
?
Thanks Josh! I’m excited about it. ?
Just checking….has the Airflow Systems cooler arrived yet?
Thanks Franz!
Supposedly 25% more air volume to the 3/4 side with these, and 20% increase in oil heat rejection over stock coolers. They have four models – for 356/912’s, 36hp VW, and two 911 applications.
Dayum! That oil cooler is Nice! Pete you a lucky man. Makes me want to build a 36 for my oval . I got to quit screwing with this MKIII first. Too many projects and not enough time or money, Seems to be a pattern with a few of us on the forums. Can’t wait to hear/see video clips of your 36 running!
Alright back at it, Thank you for being patient Pete. I’ve got my head into this. Are you still feeling the silver fan shroud? Faux Porsche super look.
I started on the fan shroud prep. Tack welded the internal fins first, then shaved the choke/throttle tube holes….because we’re going to use OG Porsche carb linkage that is all hidden on the backside and out of the way.
I’m also going to add nut plates to the cylinder tins as per Porsche design.
Shaved the thermostat slot/warm-up devise. We don’t need that junk. Extra weight.
Badass oil cooler. I’m sure somebody has done testing to see the difference? The stock cooler is tube steel.
Said Porsche linkage. I’ll probably rob the venturi ring too, as the fan shroud is trashed. The bracket in the background is the porsche piece for the coil and oil filter. I may try to use it as well.
Fuel pumps. I told you I had some good stuff. The OG correct for your car one….Or I think we should go with porsche 356 type with banjo bolts and the larger filter on top.
Notice the oil filler caps? The plain bright aluminum one with bold letters is different than most others I see. Does anybody know if its super early or something?
Glad to be back in the mix! Thanks Franz…I know you guys have been swamped after the Baja push.
- I’m still liking the idea of the silver shroud.
- On the cooler…the only tests I’ve seen have been from the manufacturer (25% more airflow to 3/4 side, etc.), who makes aircraft stuff primarily and is an avid Porsche guy. He designed these after roasting a couple motors in his personal cars. Other users swear by them, and Ruiz uses them on his builds & personal car. Living in a hot environment I want whatever protections I can get, even if nominal.
- I like the venturi ring idea too…smoother airflow, etc., for the reasons above. Shoot me an email of what you want for that linkage/shroud and how to pay (PayPal/Venmo?) and I’ll get it to you.
- I’m open to whatever you think on the fuel pumps. The Porsche one looks good to me!
- I don’t know about dating the filler caps; I’d go with whichever one you think looks best.
I’m excited to see how this takes shape!
So the fuel pump with the hat on top is Porsche? I think I may have one in my stash at home. I will look and post up pics tonight or in the morning. I got it in a pile I bought a while back and never knew what it was for. Glad to see this 36 build back in the loop.
I just sacrificed that 356 shroud. Cut it all up. Fun. The parts are looking nice. I have the cylinder tin dialed with the extra tin screws.
This is going to be one cool engine!
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
Pete/Franz, I have one but I can’t upload the pics from my cell phone for some reason. I will put them up in the morning when I get to my office.
