2007 is OUT!!!  Gave my old shit to Eddie yesterday…. Going back to my 2332 and ditching the heater boxes and run a header and get a diesel heater,,,,  😎  😎

Hoping I can sell this 2007 so I can build a bigger motor for the sand rail too….. 😎  😎

Going to pipe the diesel heater into your defroster some how? You’ll need that with the camping you do. Brand new 2007! Would be a great bus motor if someone has a normalish trans… haha

I dunno… WHAT to do??????????????????????????????   I DON’T want to give up my defrost or heat…. 8-( 8-( 8-( 8-( 8-(  and I don’t want to hack into my heater tube either…..     I think I am going back to my old setup…. and need to figure out how to cool them heads down with some sort of water mister setup?????????????  but I don’t know about misting water on a HOT ASS cylinder or head????  sounds bad…  mister in the fan would put humidity in my defrost…..

    water cooled with misters?

Maybe a mister on the inside of each set of vents and some small scoops… 😎

Sucks you’re still battling this. I am running the high flow or whatever their called 1.5” heater boxes without fins and on the commercial and kombi with both boxes running thru tube to the front provide enough heat/airflow to keep windows clear. We have the diesel heater to keep us warm and they really are amazing and economical.

you need a bigger radiator to keep your big block cool, if everything else is correct, jetting tins sealed, timing, etc…. for mine adding the external oil cooler, thermostatic bypass and cooler fan dropped my engine temps 40° On the hottest 100° Days. And I am also still running the stick doghouse cooler in the shroud. We only need to stop now to cool ourselves off as the motor is cool as a cucumber. Oil is no longer black too. It is more shit/plumbing to possibly fail, but at the same time, not running a cooler is contributing to the current failure rate.

Its all just my opinion, but it’s tough watching you struggle thru what I’ve gone thru for 8 years with the “I’m not gonna run a external cooler” mindset.

I put an external cooler on it a while ago…  not thermostat.. cause you know how I am about extra shit..

I fucked the last engine up…  Eddie will get it right and I should be cool as a cucumber too…. 😎  fingers crossed..  i’m gonna have power again… 😎

With great power comes great responsibility. 😁 didn’t know you gave in to a cooler idea 👍  it could be as simple as the small exhaust and low compression…from memory,  im running close to 9:1 dynamic CR and 1.5” exhaust on a baby 2110. I’m sure you’ve seen this article in hot vw’s a while back on the exhaust sizing.

I was waiting till the 2007 got pulled out 😆

maybe now is the time to heed some of Brians advice? he knows what he’s doing and has been very generous with his knowledge.  I know its all a bit ‘new school’ for you guys, but times change and so does understanding of performance engine building.

also, the new 1-5/8″ heater boxes have aluminum fins cast inside them and will work great.  A properly built 2332 will need 1-5/8 exhaust anyway.

oh and as Cole mentioned, the transaxle gearing is very important, no reason to be running a 3.88 with an .82 fourth with such tall tires.

If you are gonna rebuild the 2332, run the CB panchitos heads, and get the CNC chamber option at 63cc, so you can run 9.0 and .045″ deck height.  Order the matching cast manifolds at the same time

The panchitos castings are amazing and built to cool better. No flashing, extra fins and way heavier.  They also have killer airspeed, and that is what makes torque.  More money for sure, but worth it. Power is in the heads, and in this case, also better cooling.

I am a huge fan of the Web 218 for buses, and it would I be perfect for what you are wanting to do.  Some Engle cams are OK, but most were designed in the early ’70’s and adapted from other engines.  The Web stuff is way more modern, and makes more power without extra noise or wear

The 1 5/8 heater boxes will work aweosme and perfect for what you are after.

Make sure your guy dials in the deck height to .045″ and doesn’t just slap it together where ever it lands.  Details are important!!

Gearing is super important.  The engine needs to be about 3200rpm at cruising speed for max cooling.  Having the peak torque just above your cruising speed also keeps the engine cruising where it’s most efficient, and cools best.  The Web 218 in my 2332 quits revving at about 5300rpm, and peak torque is about 4000rpm.

It’s all about the entire package from the carbs down to the tires. Every component in between needs to be matched, and it all needs to be planned out to work together.

Where is your cooler mounted now?

Just a few suggestions to think about.  I don’t know much, but I do have some successful big bus engines under my belt, with quite a few hard miles on them.  I learn something new from every one, and I always try to continue to improve them each time.

I appreciate all the help guys…  and I do listen… 😎    I try to do more listening these days than talking… 😎  Some people have a lot more to say than I do… 😎

I think all our busses are little different..  And how, and how much, and how far we drive em is different too… 😎

I also think, the more I break, test and try, the more I learn…   The more busses I own and road trip, the more I learn,  10,000 hours to get good at anything…  Working on my 10,000 hours of bus road trip time, 1 trip at a time.. 😎  😎    I can think of 7 different two liter busses I have driven all over this continent.  😎 😎  😎

Leaving tomorrow for another 12 hour road trip to Reno…. 😎  Taking the kombi, which is set up exactly like you guys all want me to run… 😎  😎  web cam, good compression, big header, no heat, big heads.. builds awesome power, runs cool, oh…. Straight axle too, which I think makes a large difference also.. 😎

It all works.. some better than others… 😎
